Ann Just Can't Keep Her Damn Mouth Shut

In a recent Fox interview, Ann Coulter was quoted as saying she would campaign for Hillary if McCain wins. Here is an excerpt from that interview:

COULTER: No, and if you're looking at substance rather than whether it's an R or D after his name, manifestly, if our's candidate than Hillary's going to be our girl, Sean, because she's more conservative than he is. I think she would be stronger on the war on terrorism. I absolutely believe that.

HANNITY: That's the one area I disagree with you.

COULTER: No, yes, we're going to sign up together. Let me explain that point on terrorism.

HANNITY: You'd vote for Hillary —

COULTER: I will campaign for her if it's McCain.

She has said a lot of stupid things, but this really takes the cake. Even Rush Limbaugh couldn't find it in himself to defend this insipid comment. It is just so ridiculous. No matter how liberal you may think McCain's views are (and yes, he has some very liberal views) he is most certainly more conservative than Hillary Clinton, as well as every other Democrat front runner.

Does she honestly believe that Hillary is going to be a better choice to lead the War on Terror than John McCain? My guess is no; she is doing it for attention, which in turn puts money in her pocket. I don't believe she is a stupid woman, and she doesn't appear insane, so the only conclusion I have left is that her greed has overwhelmed her ideology. Which is actually more disappointing. I would almost rather that she were stupid or insane.

I never really took her that seriously anyway, but any credibility she had with me before evaporated with that stupid comment. While he may not be conservative enough on most issues, on every issue John McCain is more conservative than Hillary Clinton. And to any real (sane) conservative, that would be obvious.

I know you need to sell your books Ann, but please try to avoid stabbing the party in the back in the process.

Are you really a Republican or is this some kind of sick joke?

Yes, I am really a Republican. In fact, I am the flavor of Republican that liberals hate the most: the Neo-Con.

So whats the difference between Neo-cons and other conservatives?

Short answer: Neocons are more agressive on foreign policy, and are more idealistic when it comes to democracy. For a more detailed overview, see my post on the subject.

But how can you be gay and still be a Republican?

Most of my political belief's are parallel those of the Republican Party, and most conservatives in general. There is no political party I am aware of that reflects my views more closely than the Republicans currently do.

Arent Republicans anti-gay rights though?

In some ways they are, but not to the degree that the liberal media likes to portray.

Many republicans are actually in favor of civil unions for gays, even though most also oppose gay marriage. Most recent polls actually show a larger percentage of Republicans favor civil unions for gays than oppose them.

It should be noted however that Democrats are not exactly friends of homos either. Those same polls show a majority of Democrats oppose same-sex marriage, and almost every major Democrat politician has openly said they oppose gay marriage as well.

How can you support people who want to take away gay rights?

Easy; while gay rights are not at the bottom of the list as far as issues that concern me, they definitely arent at the top either. I care more about issues like Defense and Abortion than gay rights. It really is as simple as that.

Gay rights are not a litmus test for me. Additionally, Republicans are not necessarily anti-gay anyway. So I think it is inaccurate to say they want to "take away" gay rights.

So you're a self-hating gay, right?

Not at all. I do support some gay-rights agendas (like gay marriage for example).

What makes me a conservative however is the fact that I do not believe that such things should be imposed on the majority via judicial activism.

Being part of a democracy means that you dont always get your way. Doing an end-run around the law through judicial activism is obnoxious and dishonest...and very un-democratic. The way to change things is from the ground up...by convincing people of your position one person at a time.

Yes, it is slower, but it is also the honest thing to do. We have to correct a lot of stereotypes and misconceptions that straight people have about us (in part because some members of the gay community go way out of their way to reenforce those stereotypes whenever possible). This process is not going to be quick or easy. Impatience is not reason enough to circumvent the legislative process with judicial activism.

So are you a racist too?

Racism is another conservative stereotype that has been manufactured by liberal propaganda. Most former racists in congress are Democrats, not Republicans.

Republicans in general, and neocons in particular, are inherently anti-racist; because racism and equal opportunity are mutually exclusive concepts. Neocons support equal opportunity for all people, regardless of race, sex, or religion.

So you must be a fascist then, right?

No, I am a nationalist. Meaning I do see America as being superior to all other cultures, past and present (including previous versions of America itself).

My views of other cultures tend to range somewhere between polite chauvinism and open contempt. Yes, I am arrogant and completely unapologetic about it. But I dont believe I am a fascist.

I do not hate other cultures, but I do have an "us vs them" mentallity when it comes to them. The truth is that technologically, militarily, and economically we dwarf every other nation that has ever existed in human history. To ignore that fact is simply naive.
